| vashistvishal | Jan 30, 2007 3:58am | I have been asked by lot of people over the years from the days of my teaching at RMIT and at Ericsson now, what books a programmer or a Software developer must have in his/her bookshelf. I have been thinking of this for a while and this what i have compiled. These books must be read by every developer or software engineer before writing a piece of code. I have categorized them under
1. Software Engineering, Design and Philosophy
2. Programming Skills
3. Operating Systems
4. Network (Protocol)
5. Database
What do you guys thinsk of this list.

I never read a single book on development - and run a very successful development business (web) also was a finalist in the 2000 shareware awards and have had some of my software on the priceless-ware list for the last 7 consecutive years.
Some people learn from books - others don't. There is no such thing as must reads - only recommended reading. Some people will need and want that - others won't want or need it. |

When I started to learn PHP/MySQL I went to there web sites and read a couple of tutorials and then began using it. At first I did not understand it but after a couple of weeks I was up and running. I think the best way to learn is to do it. |
